A recent malware hack on an old webserver of mine led me to reexamine the systems and tools I use to run my day-to-day business. What systems do I directly control and what systems are more or less under the control of others? Is there such a thing as “giving away” more control than necessary?

These are good questions to ask yourself. Do you more or less have direct control over the systems that power your business? Or, do you rely on others or to do it for you? Have we invested in the big platforms of our time at the expense of our own?

While it’s true that we all rely upon “things” that others build and maintain, overreliance and giving away too much control can hurt you in the long run. In today’s podcast, I want to talk about finding the balance and doing what’s best for your longterm strategy.
